Pilates Pedagogy

June 12 - 15, 2025

Learning something new can be fun. Deepening your knowledge in an area about which you are passionate can be rewarding. Doing either of these things in a beautiful, comfortable and intimate setting with world-class instruction, hands-on guidance, likeminded friends, and nutrient-dense meals prepared with love can be a dream come true. It was, in fact, my dream to create such a program for the international Pilates community. I am so happy I now get to invite you to Heirloom Springs, a farm in rural Virginia where nature, movement, mentoring, and more come together. I hope you will join me for a long weekend where honing your Pilates skills is only the beginning.

Reinventing ourselves and continuing to define who we want to be as teachers is an ongoing journey. Whether you have two years of experience or 20, continuing to redefine what’s important, keeping up with your education journey, and staying grounded in your body is what will give you the longevity needed to teach in the Pilates world.

Join us for a weekend filled with exploration, education, redefining skills, and taking a deep inward look on where we may have neglected ourselves and importantly, how to fill that void. Each attendee will have the opportunity to book a personal assessment (during free time) with follow up notes about what they can be working on to improve their personal practice, and how that might benefit their teaching going forward.

This is a retreat not a conference, so we will enjoy a weekend filled with camaraderie, farm to table for the soul, soaking in the forest, and all Mother Nature has to offer, while taking a much needed digital detox.

Pilates: Honoring the Masters, Making It My Own – A Journey of Application & Inspiration

In this immersive workshop, I’ll take you on a deep dive into the essence of Pilates, blending the wisdom of my mentors with my own unique approach. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to study with some of the most revered minds in Pilates, and through this journey, I’ve developed a method that’s personal, authentic, and adaptable. I’ll share how I’ve transformed the teachings of Pilates greats into a practice that resonates with me—and how you can do the same in your own teaching and practice.

Throughout my 25 years in the industry, I’ve learned the importance of always continuing to grow and evolve. At each stage of my journey, I’ve sought out the right mentor who met my needs at that moment, and I’ll show you how this approach can inspire your own lifelong learning.

Through this workshop, you'll gain invaluable expressions, cues, hands-on techniques, and philosophies that have inspired me to evolve my own style. I’ll show you how to take these powerful lessons and make them your own to deepen your practice, teach with more confidence, and inspire your students to connect more deeply with the work ~ Rachael

Seeing Well: What Do You See, What Do You Need to See, and How Do You Get There?                 -

“The value of experience is not in seeing much, but in seeing wisely.” -Sir William Osler                 -

Understanding the centrality of seeing in our role as instructors helps us recognize that our visual attention is fundamental to cueing our clients efficiently and effectively. Thinking carefully and critically about how we see is a vital, if invisible, part of our practice. In this interactive workshop, we will explore how to hone your observational skills, with a focus on what you are seeing and why it matters. Together, we’ll break down various elements of visual analysis and discuss how to direct our attention so that we can cue more effectively, anticipate needs, and offer meaningful adjustments for maximum impact.

Beyond Choreography: Exploring the Conditions of Control

In this follow-up to Beyond Choreography: The Conditions of Control, we’ll investigate a set of universal yet invisible tenets that lie at the heart of the classical Pilates system. For teachers who are interested in looking deeper, this workshop explores different ways of contextualizing the exercises, not by virtue of their external resemblance (shape, movement, apparatus, level) (but by asserting or identifying a consistent pattern of paired biomechanical challenges that define Pilates as an integrated system. This interactive session examines and unpacks these patterns offering a structured approach to producing more effective, impactful teaching.

Whole Body, Whole Being: Navigating the Complexities of Teaching Pilates with Clarity, Compassion, and Boundaries presented through 3 Case Studies

    • The Physical Body — A live, in-person body assessment.

    • The Fragile Psyche — Supporting emotionally sensitive clients within scope.

    • The “Difficult” Client — Late cancels, non-payment, crossed boundaries—we’ll unpack it all.

In the modern Pilates studio, instructors are often called to be more than just movement guides—they become steady presences in the lives of clients facing physical discomfort, emotional fatigue, and real-life challenges. But how do we support the whole person while staying grounded in our role as movement professionals?

This continuing education workshop invites you into a full-spectrum exploration of the Pilates teacher’s unique position at the intersection of body, mind, and spirit. Using a case study approach, we’ll dive into the realities of working with clients who present complex physical limitations, emotional intensity, or energetic overwhelm.

We’ll explore how to meet these challenges with clarity and heart—without stepping outside our professional scope. You’ll walk away with practical strategies for working with physical misalignments and chronic conditions, nurturing the spirit through presence and programming, and holding firm (and kind) boundaries around money, time, and studio policies.

Whether you’re a new teacher or a seasoned pro, this workshop will help you refine your approach to complex client relationships, support your own energetic sustainability, and deepen your capacity to lead with integrity and ease.
