October Newsletter: Full-On Fall!

My favorite day of the year is the first day the air turns crisp, the leaves start changing color, and the whispers of winter sing their song. How lucky I was to have my favorite day of the year also be during our fall Signature Retreat weekend. We went from late summer on Friday, to full blown crisp fall by Sunday. The weather was beautiful, the food delicious, and the company superb! In addition to having wonderful guests and staff, I also had a special guest, my mom. It was truly a beautiful weekend, and after a few days of resting I am ready to start planning my spring retreats. Be on the lookout for dates coming soon!

This month also brought our first Pilates open house to the farm. I decided after nearly three years hiatus of not teaching classes regularly it was time. I am excited to bring Joe Pilates’ method to Amherst County Virginia. I have launched two classes, one In-Person on the farm, and one Virtually for those wanting to practice with me anywhere in the world. I was thrilled to have such a great response for our first round of classes! I will be running the classes on Wednesdays until December 6th. In-person Wednesdays at 11AM, and on-line via Zoom Wednesdays at 12:30pm EST.

After the last three weeks of glorious fall weather, we are due for our first frost. My mom and I worked furiously this weekend to finish harvesting any vegetables and herbs left in the gardens, and making the always hard decisions on which plants to put in the herb cottage to overwinter. It was also time to ensure all the animals are set for our first round of cold weather. Obviously a fall pie was in order after all the farm work! We roasted the massive cushaw squash I grew, and used our freshly harvested honey to make a delicious pie.

Happy fall y’all!
